When should I see a vet rather than buy a supplement?
This is the most important question on the page, so it goes first.
Contact your vet the same day if your dog or cat is straining to urinate, passing blood, crying or whimpering when they go, going very frequently with little coming out, licking excessively at themselves, or seems lethargic or off their food alongside any of that.
Treat it as an emergency if a cat, particularly a male cat, is straining and producing nothing at all. A blocked bladder can become life threatening within a day.

It contains liquorice root. Does that matter?
It is worth knowing about, yes. Liquorice root is a long-established botanical, but it is not an inert one, and prolonged daily use is something to mention to your vet rather than simply continue indefinitely.

Can cats have these?

My dog will not take tablets, and they seem large
